Tattooing has been around for a long time, the oldest recorded human to be found preserved with tattoos still visible is at least 8600 years old. However there is evidence humans have been at it long before that, it seems as soon as we discovered wall painting we were tattooing ourselves in some form or another. It would seem it’s in our human nature to permanently decorate ourselves!
